Gulab Jamun

It is one of the classic Indian dessert loved by every age people. It is the most recognized sweets from India and is consumed in every corner of the country. Whenever there is any occasion, the first dessert which comes to every Indian's mind is gulab jamun. It is an all-time favorite Indian delicacy, which everybody loves. Nowadays people have different variations with gulab jamun. For e.g. Gulab jamun with ice cream, gulab jamun with rabdi. If you follow the recipe below you will be able to make delicious gulab jamun at home.


Ingredients

  • Mawa (Khoya) - 500 grams
  • Maida (Refined flour) - 125 grams
  • Baking powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Elaichi (Cardamom) powder - 2 tsp
  • Sugar - 1 kg
  • Oil for frying

Method

  1. Grate and mash khoya to make sure it is smooth and soft. Add maida and baking powder to khoya and make a soft dough 
  2. Cover it with a muslin cloth for 10-15 minutes and keep it aside. Make small balls of the dough. 
  3. To prepare sugar syrup, mix water, and sugar. Stir it continuously till the sugar is completely dissolved. Add the cardamom powder and mix it well. 
  4. Take a kadhai and add oil to deep fry the balls. Make sure it is golden in color. 
  5. Use tissue paper to drain the excess oil of the balls. 
  6. Now soak the balls in sugar syrup for 15-20 minutes. 
  7. Enjoy the gulab jamun hot or cold as per your choice.

Tip: Make sure there are no cracks while making the balls.
