Benefits of Panchmel dal

It is a type of dal made from five different varieties of lentils. Each dal has its own unique taste and texture and nutrition. When all five dal come together, it forms a hearty and delicious stew that is full of nutrients. It is also better in digestion and removes weakness. It contains lots of nutrients, so this food can provide nutrition to your daily needs.


Ingredients

  • Moong Dal - 1/3 cup
  • Masoor Dal - 1/4 cup
  • Urad Dal - 1/4 cup
  • Chana Dal - 1/4 cup
  • Toor Dal - 1/4 cup
  • Onion - 1
  • Tomato - 2
  • Haldi (Turmeric) - 1 tsp
  • Ginger-Garlic paste - 1 tbsp
  • Chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Kasuri methi - 2 tsp
  • Garam masala - 2 tsp
  • Kashmiri chilly powder - 2 tsp
  • Dried red chilli - 2
  • Mustard seeds - 2 tsp
  • Jeera (Cumin) - 2 tsp
  • Oil - 4 tbsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Hing (Asafoetida)

Method

  1. Mix all five types of dal. Wash them properly and let them soak for 1/2 to 1 hour. Then cook them in a pressure cooker and mash them. 
  2. Take oil in a kadhai and add mustard seeds, jeera, and a pinch of hing and let it crackle. 
  3. Add finely chopped onions and cook them till it becomes reddish-brown and soft. Now add ginger-garlic paste and saute. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook till they are soft and oil is released. 
  4. Now add the five varieties of dal which were mashed and all the spices and mix it well. Close the lid and let it cook for a few minutes. 
  5. Now give a tadka using oil and dried red chill. 
  6. Garnish them and serve them with paratha or jeera rice.
