Cakes are the most common and popular desserts loved by kids, teenagers, adults. Normally it was only for occasions like birthdays or anniversaries but now it has been accommodated on every occasion or celebration. People love cake not just for its taste but for the way it looks, the frosting, the buttercream, the mirror glaze on it, everything. There are different variations to it like simple and plain or with shiny glossy topping. But for me, a simple sponge cake without cream or toppings is best to eat. Here is a simple recipe for sponge cake which I use at home.
Ingredients
- Maida (Refined flour) - 1 & 1/2 cup
- Butter - 1/3 cup
- Powdered sugar - 1/4 cup
- Baking powder - 1 & 1/4 tsp
- Soda bicarbonate - 1/4 tsp
- Condensed milk - 200 grams
- Milk - 1/4 cup
- Vanilla Essence - 1/2 tsp
- 3 types of food color - 1/2 tsp
Method
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- Grease and dust a five-inch cake tin with the shape of your choice.
- Sieve together maida, powdered, baking powder, and soda bicarbonate into a bowl three times. In another bowl mix butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla essence. Slowly add the flour into the mixture gradually and mix it well.
- Make 3 parts of the mixture and 3 different colors of your choice into the mixture.
- Pour the batter with a spoon in the form of drops one by one into the cake tin.
- Now bake the cake at 180°C for 40 minutes. Insert a skewer to check the cake.
