Momos are a type of dumplings that are derived from Southeast Asia. Now it has become a traditional delicacy in Nepal. Momos are popular Indian street food that can be either steamed, fried, or pan-seared. We can stuff them with various types of filling either veg or non-veg or even sweet. Here is a simple recipe for veg momos for those who prefer homemade food.
Ingredients
- Beans, Cabbage, Capsicum, Carrot, Onion - one bowl each
- Finely chopped Garlic, Green chilies - 3 tsp
- Schezwan sauce - 2 tsp
- Salt - 1 tsp
- Sugar - 1 tsp
- Cornflour - 1 tsp
- Oil - 1 tbsp
- Refined flour (Maida) - 1 & 1/2 cup
- Wheat flour - 1/2 cup
Method
- Make a dough by mixing maida, wheat flour, oil, salt, and water.
- Grease the momo dish with oil.
- Take a kadhai and add oil. When it's heated add chopped green chilies and garlic and saute. Add onions first and let it cook.
- Then add one by one all the other vegetables and semi cook them. Add salt, schezwan sauce, sugar and saute them.
- In a bowl mix cornflour and water and form a paste.
- Knead the dough again and make lemon sized balls and dust it with flour. Roll out each ball into a 3" or 4" diameter circle. It should not be too thick or thin.
- Stuff the vegetable mixture into them and form the shape of a dumpling.
- Steam the dumplings for 15-20 minutes.
- Serve them with red or green chutney.
